Alles gaat draadloos tegenwoordig. In hoeverre heeft al die draadloze technologie invloed op ons welzijn?

De mobiele telefoon is niet meer weg te denken. Een draadloos netwerk is
al in de meeste huishoudens te vinden en een draadloze telefoon is toch
wel wat makkelijker dan met een draadje. En dan die zendmasten in de buurt?
Al die draadloze apparatuur maakt gebruik van straling en dat roept
vragen op. In hoeverre heeft al die draadloze technologie invloed op ons
welzijn? De elektromagnetische straling van uiteenlopende elektrische apparatuur is een omstreden onderwerp. Elektromagnetische straling in zijn algemeenheid wordt wel het moderne asbest genoemd. Tijd om het hier nog eens goed over te hebben.

Tijdens deze avond behandelen we straling vanuit verschillende
perspectieven. Raymond Lescrauwaet (De Woonbioloog, Group4Wellness) is een
specialist op het gebied van gezonde woon- en werkomgevingen. Hij komt ons
vertellen over wat die straling is en wat de mogelijke invloed op ons is.
Hij zal ons ook laten zien hoe de straling te meten is. Imar de Vries van de
Universiteit Utrecht, Media en Cultuur Wetenschap,  zal ons toelichten over waarom wij zoveel draadloos met elkaar communiceren en waarom we de mogelijke risico's daarvan voor lief nemen. De kunstenaars Ursula Lavrenčič en Auke Touwslager komen vertellen over hun kunstwerk 'Cell Phone Disco'. Dit kunstwerk vertaalt de GSM straling naar zichtbaar licht waardoor we kunnen zien wat de straling doet.
 

Everything goes wireless nowadays. To what extent does all this wireless technology affect our wellbeing?

The mobile phone is here to stay. A wireless network is already available in most households and a cordless phone is somewhat easier than with a wired one. And then all these communication masts in the neighborhood? All these wireless devices make use of radiation and that raises questions. To what extent does all this wireless technology affect our wellbeing? Radiation is a controversial topic. It is also called the modern asbestos. Time to take a good look about it.

During this evening we will discuss radiation from different perspectives. Raymond Lescrauwaet (De Woonbioloog, Group4Wellness) is the specialist in the field of healthy living and working environments. He will tell us what radiation is and how it affects us. He will show us how to measure radiation in our environment ourselves. Imar de Vries of Utrecht University will explain to us why we communicate wirelessly with each other and why we take the possible risks for granted. The artists Ursula Lavrenčič and Auke Touwslagers speak about their artwork "Cellphone Disco". This artwork translates the GSM radiation to visible light, so we can see what the radiation does.
