SETUP organiseert woensdagavond 23 februari de eerste gadget jam van Nederland: iFanfare. De ingrediënten van deze avond in jazzpodium SJU: presentaties, demo’s en professionele begeleiding tijdens een workshop vol apps, smartphones, tablets en gamecontrollers. Bring your own smartphone en doe mee aan dit unieke event!
Drie presentaties van Utrechtse muzikale creatievelingen leveren de nodige inspiratie voor de workshop. Het Utrechtse duo HEUG (Jan Schellink en Danibal) gaat aan de slag met muzikale potloden en Rutger Muller (bekend van DS10 Dominator en The Young Shaman Perspective) geeft een introductie van de muzikale mogelijkheden van tablets en smartphones. STEIM, het instituut voor digitale muziek, legt uit wat games en muziek maken met elkaar te maken hebben.
SETUP wil met de iFanfare mensen kennis laten maken met de mogelijkheden van digitale muziekinstrumenten. De muziekscene in Utrecht is heel divers en jamsessies worden overal georganiseerd, maar daarbij wordt nog weinig gebruik gemaakt van digitale mogelijkheden. SETUP wil daarin verandering brengen door tijdens deze eerste jammen-met-je-smartphone-workshop professionals te laten samenwerken met muziek- en technologieliefhebbers.

Despite of the rich music scene that Utrecht boast and the various jam sessions you can run into on any night of the week, you barely ever see new digital musical instruments there. New devices like iPhones iPads, Nintendo DS's and the like enable us to make and experiment with music in completely new ways. Interesting for both serious musicians and people who just wake up everyone morning with a tune stuck in their head and an smartphone in their hand. Which apps for which tunes.
SETUP will take you on a trip through the most interesting of digital decibels; the pieces of (not-ever-so-serious) musical art in the area of new media. What tools do our digital gadgets give us to form a iFanfare together. We'll discuss and play with the most interesting of musical app's and gadgets.
Serious musicians as well as fiddling fun seekers are invited to transform theirselves into a new media musician during this afternoon. A workshop of experimental musical character, but moreover a fun afternoon in which everyone kan summon music out of their back pocket.. with a possible ending on one of Utrechts open stages to spread the revolution in a digital jam session.
